IS THE POLICE TRULY OUR FRIENDS?
The
level of brutality in the Police Force makes one begin to wonder the kind of
cliché they are singing that the police is our friend, when the level of
brutality, man handedness and incompetence outweighs the goodwill they have
shown to us.
Some
fortnights ago, a Taxi driver was gunned down by a policeman on an escort team
at Rumuokoro because he couldn’t move his vehicle on time for their convoy to
pass. So therefore, the policeman decided to vent his frustration out on the
driver, and turn his nursing wife into an untimely widow.
It’s
been over three weeks now and the insane policeman has not been found. Is this
a case of sheer incompetence or is the police trying to shield their own? Time
will tell.
Another case that burst my bubbles happened at the express road (Aba Road, Port Harcourt, to be precise). A man was taken his son to school. They got to a point where the road was completely blocked and they couldn’t go back.
A
police convoy coming towards the man, instead of going to control the traffic
and clear the road, turned on the man. When the man tried to explain to them
that he couldn’t turn back they decided to vent their frustration on the man.
The man was beaten black and blue in the presence of his son.
Tell
me how the son will feel anytime he sees a police officer…his mindset will be
the same as the rest of us.
This
brutality must stop… the Police cannot be our friends when they keep
manhandling people, collecting roger and other vices that words cannot explain.
The police will never be our friends until they change for good.
