Top Government Official Resigns HOURS After Flynn

Michael Flynn resigned from his position as National Security Advisor following reports that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence and other officials about his contacts with Russia. Hours later, another top official in the government resigned as well.
Clancy was working in the private sector before he was brought on by Barack Obama in 2014 amidst a long list of security breaches and employee misconduct in the Secret Service. Last week, he alerted Trump’s White House that he plans to retire as of March 4.
Clancy oversaw the Secret Service as it navigated a difficult 2016 presidential election that featured pushing and taunting from both sides. Thanks in large part to Clancy’s leadership, there were no major incidents in the Secret Service during that time.
The Secret Service head said his best moment came in the summer and fall of 2015 when he watched his agents and officers simultaneously protect Pope Francis on a historic four-city visit to America and 170 foreign dignitaries at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The understaffed Secret Service had to rely heavily on its sister agencies in the Department of Homeland Security to accomplish this.
“We had been going through a tough time, but I could see in their eyes and hear in their voices they were determined to succeed,” Clancy said. “They wanted to prove to everyone they could complete this most difficult mission, and they did. I knew they were exhausted, but they were determined, and knowing what they had been through over recent years, it was inspirational to me.”The Secret Service head said his best moment came in the summer and fall of 2015 when he watched his agents and officers simultaneously protect Pope Francis on a historic four-city visit to America and 170 foreign dignitaries at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Former director Ralph Basham said Clancy will be remembered as a solid leader “who has done right by the Service.”
“Due to his calm and professional manner and approach to problem solving, he’s just done a tremendous job for the department. It was an incredibly difficult couple of years,” Basham said. “Not to say they don’t have issues remaining, but I think he’s put the organization on a good path to getting better. ”
