The State of the Nigeria Nation: A call for Peoples Referendum
Being text of communiqué at the end of the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the Igbo National Council (INC) held in Enugu on Saturday 22nd July 2017
Preamble
The delegates to the National Working Committee (NWC) of Igbo National Council (INC), on Saturday, July 22, 2017 gathered in Enugu to critically deliberate of the State of the Igbo Nation and the Nigeria Nation in view of the recent political upheaval that has over clouded the Nigeria Polity with potential to cause an avoidable breakdown of law and order if not properly handled by all the major stakeholders in Nigeria Project.
After extensive deliberation in various topical issues as it affects the development of the Igbo Nation and Nigeria at large, the Council came up with the following resolutions:
1. THE IMMEDIATE ARREST OF THE LEADERS OF COALITION OF AREWA YOUTHS: The INC calls on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS) to immediate arrest and prosecution the entire leadership of the Coalition of Arewa Youths who recently issued the hateful quit notice to members of the Igbo race who live in the Northern Nigeria, asking fellow Nigerians to vacate the Northern Nigeria State before the 1st day of October 2017. Failure of which, the repeat of the pogrom of 1967 may be the result. The INC view this quit notice by the Coalition of Arewa Youths as a serious threat to National Security and a treasonable offence.
2. A CALL FOR IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF GOVERNOR EL RUFAI: The INC therefore call for the immediate resignation of Governor Mallam El Rufai of Kaduna State for aiding and abetting the criminality and condoning injustices as carried out by the so-called Coalition of Arewa Youths, under his watch.
3. STATE OF EMERGENCY IN NORTHERN NIGERIA: The INC calls on the acting President C-in-C of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to declare a state-of-emergency in all States in the Northern part of Nigeria before October 1st 2017 in other to forestall the impending loom of imminent human disaster that may occur as a result of the criminality and illegal quit notice by the purported Coalition of Arewa Youths.
4. INCAPACITATION OF PRESIDENT MOHAMMADU BUHARI: Consequent upon the state of avoidable rascality within the national polity, the INC calls on the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) to immediately invoke the provisions Section 144 of the 1999 constitution OF THE Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and other related provisions, to declare President Mohammadu Buhari incapacitated and forthwith remove him from office as President C-in-C of the Federal Republic of Nigeria so that the country can move forward from its present economic and political logjam. It is notable that President spent over 50 days during his last medical trip abroad and now over 80 days within the persisting one and so wasting surplus economic and human resources and national socio-political hours on ailments.
5. CONVOCATION OF REFERENDUM FOR ALL NATIONS OR ETHNIC NATIONALITIES IN NIGERIA SEEKING FOR SELF-DETERMINATION e.g. ‘THE BIAFRA AGITATION’: The INC condemns the recent fraudulent and undemocratic constitution of a committee by the ruling APC government called “Committee on Restructuring” headed by Malam El Rufia of Kaduna State as such the committee and its intended purpose was dead on arrival. The INC insists on the immediate convocation of a Referendum for the people of Eastern Nigeria and the entire Biafraland seeking self-determination in the present Nigeria nation state or alternatively convene a Sovereign National Conference (SNC) of all indigenous people of Nigeria.
6. Finally, the INC asserts that should these demands be treated with levity by the Federal Government of Nigeria within 30 days of this demand, the Igbo Nation would have no other option but to take their destiny in their hands. A stitch in time saves nine.
Signed
