Andy Uba announced his defection on the floor of the Senate
Andy Uba, a former PDP member, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and formally made the announcement on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.
But in reaction, the minority leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, asked that apart from declaring his seat vacant, Uba should be removed as the chairman of the committee on public accounts.

Meanwhile, Senate President Bukola Saraki read a letter from the presidency on the floor of the upper house concerning the nomination of Walter Onnoghen as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
